SB25-003

SB25-003 went into effect August 1st, 2026. We've chosen to provide some documentation here to help clear up any confusion regarding what firearms are still eligible for purchase without completing the safety course, and which ones will require the safety course. Revolvers, lever guns, bolt action rifles, shotguns (including tube fed semiautomatic), and most semiautomatic handguns are not covered under this legislation.

As a rule of thumb: Any sort of AR or AK pistol is covered under the bill. Notable additions include semiautomatic pistols that function via a gas assist or blowback (Magnum Research Desert Eagle is gas-assisted), recoil operated handguns (most modern semiautomatics) are safe to purchase with no additional steps.
